Zoning board approves 18,330 SF BAPS Cherry Hill temple expansion

NJ CHERRY HILL — Zoning board unanimously approves 18,330 square foot expansion for BAPS Cherry Hill temple. The project on Carnegie Plaza in the Industrial Restricted zone adds a gymnasium and new classrooms to the existing 65,650 square foot religious sanctuary without increasing the congregation, which runs 400 to 500 on typical Sundays and up to 600 on four to five high-holiday days per year. Chair Jonathan Rardin and the full board approved the major site plan and requested d(2) and d(6) use variances unanimously, with six members voting affirmatively.
The approval requires New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection sign-off on a wetlands buffer-averaging plan, with mandatory 10:00 PM lighting cutoffs for all fixtures above 35 feet on all days.
